City Sound Drum and Bugle Corps
Lolita Y. Carter is the Director of Bands at Dominguez High School In Compton, California.  she is primarily responsible for the care, maintenance, feeding and instruction of over 100 kids who train as musicians, dancers, and twirlers. The marching, concert and jazz programs keep her hopping year-round. However, she stills finds the time to volunteer with the city sound drum and bugle corps, and the music ministry at church of the redeemer,

Funny thing though, she never planned to be a teacher.  The only reason she learned to play all 13 of the instruments she loves, is because she didn’t have the good sense not to pick up any instrument she saw that were not already attached to another person.  also, committing to a schedule of band, orchestra, and choir rehearsals got her ready for the hectic schedule of school, work, touring, and recording that she maintained from the time she was 16.

...Had a real good time too.  Got to learn from some of the best in the business - Ike turner, ray charles, quincey jones, skip stephenson, richard tee, reggie dozier, seth green, james cleveland, billy preston, leon haywood, and a host of others !!!

But what is it that keeps her going...MARCHING BAND !!!

lo started marching at age 12 with the compton all-city youth band, and stayed with them until they threw her out at age 21...She also marched for pius x high school, compton high school, and san diego state university.  a marching fool!!!

After graduating from college, she quickly got back on the road and in the studio....
AND THEN...a really strange thing happened...lolita got shanghai’d, ended up in a classroom.  was real unhappy in a classroom until someone asked her to organize a marching drumline for elementary aged kids...VROOM, VROOM.
